“Now is a critically important time in our nation’s history, when we are establishing the first, permanent, space infrastructure and creating the means to build spacecraft in orbit. In-space servicing, assembly and manufacturing open up unprecedented opportunities for industry and national security, but the US needs to fill significant technical and workforce gaps for us to seize these opportunities. That’s why we have stood up NYCST: it is a new consortium led by Cornell University designed to build the nation’s space technology capabilities through DoD funding, providing access to facilities for simulation, testing, and flight operations, and collaboration among US universities and US industry. In fact, we have already begun accelerating the development of several technologies for space-domain awareness and providing access to technology-development facilities for US businesses, large and small, to infuse cutting-edge capabilities into their space-development strategies. NYCST is forging a new generation of space technology and defense capabilities in New York State and the country.”
— Dr. Mason Peck, Director of the New York Consortium for Space Technology, Innovation and Development (NYCST)
